These two sides have had mixed starts to the season with neither of them able to put any sort of consistent run together, meaning they are both in midtable at this early stage of the campaign.

Grimsby recorded an excellent victory last time out as they beat high-flying Accrington Stanley 2-1 away from home which pulls them a bit further away from the relegation zone.

The Mariners have done pretty well in the final third of late with goals in each of their last three outings. However, they have been incredibly poor at the back with an average of two goals conceded per league game whilst they have also kept just one clean sheet in all competitions this season.

Russell Slade’s side had been having a dreadful time at Blundell Park until a couple of weeks ago, having suffered three consecutive losses in all competitions. However, their fortunes have turned recently with a draw in normal time against League One Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Trophy (although they eventually lost on penalties) followed by a 1-0 victory against Crewe Alexandra in the league. This clean sheet against Crewe was Grimsby’s first home clean sheet since 28th February.

After putting together two consecutive wins a couple of weeks ago, things were looking up for Yeovil but they have now taken just two points from a possible nine in their last three.

Whilst Grimsby’s defence may be poor, Yeovil’s is even worse and their Goals Against record of 18 is the second-worst in the division. Having said that, the eight goals conceded on opening day is a big factor in that statistic. Darren Way’s side have been decent in the final third this term with 12 goals scored in seven league matches – the best record in the bottom half of the table.

Unfortunately, going into this match at Grimsby, the positive of 12 goals scored is counterbalanced by the Glovers’ horrendous away form which has seen them lose all three of their away league matches so far.

It seems that neither of these sides enjoy defending, so I am expecting a few defensive mistakes here which should result in a few goals. Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals Total is priced at 23/20. This bet would have won in 75% of the previous meetings between these two sides.
