Football-wise, Iceland are one of the most attractive teams in France. No team at this tournament has been able to score more than Iceland (6), and no one could say these guys have been parking the bus in the way that some others have. They’ve conceded four, so their defence can’t be called impeccable.

France won’t have Rami and Kante due suspension, and Didier Deschamps is likely to field a more attacking squad with Coman instead of the Leicester midfielder, tactics that worked perfectly in the second half against Ireland. Coman’s appearance made Les Bleus far more agile, which was crucial in cracking the Irish defence. The Bayern winger received a 7.2 mark from WhoScored, the fifth-best by any French player after Griezmann, Payet, Pogba and Matuidi.

Given that Iceland saw a both teams to score outcome in all of their four matches at these finals, including Portugal and England, I expect they will definitely have chances against an experimental French defence/midfield. However, I’m also sure that France’s class will prevail, and they will secure their promotion to the semifinals in regular time. If Iceland are down in the second half they’re not the sort of team to sit on an honorary defeat which will open up spaces for Payet, Griezmann and others.

I’m backing the French to win this game, but not in the conventional sense. France to win and over 2.5 goals looks the best bet in my eyes. France are likely to really attack this game and they should have more than enough quality to score, but Iceland too can cause a threat and overall we should see goals.

William Hill are also offering enhanced odds on Griezmann to score and France to win at 2/1. This is definitely a price worth taking, as, having netted twice last time out, he’s in very good form. Griezmann is a player who excels at positional play, as well as being someone who is deadly on the counter. His movement off the ball make him a markers nightmare.
