Yuki Tsunoda: Sometimes driving a car my brain starts to overheat
Yes, I have worked with a psychologist before – starting with my performances in Formula 2. I am very happy… or rather, I was very happy to work with him. Thanks to him, in particular, I was able to break into Formula 1. He was able to help me improve the consistency of my performances, starting with Formula 2.
Now Red Bull have hired a new psychologist/coach for me, it happened about four races ago. It’s hard for me to say how well it’s worked at the moment. If it worked very well, I probably wouldn’t have had an accident (didn’t collide with teammate Pierre Gasly at Silverstone). But we naturally need more time – he (the psychologist) needs to understand me better, learn more about me, we need to figure out what direction to take in our work.
But yes, one of the problems I have right now, which is limiting my abilities, is that sometimes, while driving a car, my brain just starts to overheat. And I know I have to improve, I have to perform more steadily. Hopefully the arrival of a new coach will work, said Tsunoda.
