Cesc Fabregas sounds transfer warning to Arsenal over Leandro Trossard debut cameo

‘I think Trossard is a really good player, better than people think he is right now.

Cesc Fabregas believes Leandro Trossard demonstrated glimpses of what he will bring to Arsenal during his cameo against Manchester United and is not convinced the Gunners require any more January signings.

The north Londoners reclaimed a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table with a 3-2 win over Manchester United at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon, with Eddie Nketiah scoring a deserved winner in the 90th minute.

Trossard, who joined from Brighton for £27 million on Friday, made his debut in the 81st minute against United and assisted on the winner, playing in Oleksandr Zinchenko, who crossed into the box.

Fabregas is a big fan of the Belgian and was impressed by what he saw in his brief appearance, while he believes Trossard and incoming Polish defender Jakub Kiwior should be enough reinforcements for the January window.

‘Well, we need to believe in the squad they have,’ Fabregas said on Sky Sports when asked if Arsenal still needed a couple more players to add more squad depth.

‘I think Trossard is a really good player, better than people think he is right now.

‘He showed it in Brighton and again today for a few minutes. He’s not like what they’ve got. He can play between the lines, score goals, and play in various positions up front.

‘Gabriel Jesus needs to return soon, and if they can keep going with Eddie [Nketiah] scoring goals while waiting for Gabriel to return.

‘Plus the defender they just acquired from Spezia. ‘Perhaps they could get another signing.’

‘There would have been panic stations when they didn’t get Mykhailo Mudryk, they might have thought, “That was a big miss for us,” said fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp.

‘However, Trossard has already demonstrated in a 15-minute cameo that he will be an excellent signing for them.

‘He has great qualities; he goes forward with the ball and is at ease on it. If you will, he is a typical Arsenal player. A good footballer who scores goals and creates goals, he’s a good signing, and £22 million [up front] is a real bargain from their perspective.’

‘Be careful what you wish for,’ Roy Keane cautioned Arsenal against making too many January signings. We’re all debating which players you need, but sometimes you just have to look at the group you have.

‘With one or two players returning from injury, you go, you know what, no need to panic buy or overpay like we see at other clubs. They have a good group. Arsenal has always produced talented young players.

‘Just be careful not to look outside. Be proud of the group; consider what they’ve accomplished thus far. Be careful not to bring in a player who disrupts everything.’
